Solid Walnut and Beech Oval Dining Tables

An oval walnut dining table brings visible grain and deeper brown tones to the room. The base gives each model a different character:

• Dorel combines a walnut top with two sculptural pedestal bases. Its substantial supports suit rooms where the table will be a prominent part of the interior.

• Arden uses curved walnut panel legs that echo the softer outline of the tabletop. It works well with organic modern furniture, textured upholstery and simple lighting.

• Toledo pairs walnut with angled metal legs for a mid-century look with an industrial element.

• Oasis combines an oval walnut top with black metal legs, making it a useful option for farmhouse and warm contemporary dining spaces.

For solid beech, Beverly Hills and Monroe offer modern forms with a different grain character. Beverly Hills is designed around a six-person dining arrangement, while Monroe provides several length and width combinations.

Wood species and finish both influence the final appearance. Natural grain and tonal variations mean each table will differ slightly from the photographed example.

Oval Dining Table Sizes

Measure both the length and the maximum width of the tabletop. Two tables of the same length can leave very different amounts of room for serving dishes, chairs and circulation.

Choosing an Oval Dining Table for Four, Six or Eight

Start with the number of people who use the table every day, then consider occasional guests.

For four diners, compare the smaller sizes and check that the curved ends leave enough room for place settings. For six, a common arrangement is two chairs along each long side and one at each end. Beverly Hills is one option designed for this layout.

For eight diners, begin by comparing the larger 80"–88" options and have the chair arrangement checked before ordering. Chair width, the curve of the top and the position of the supports all affect usable seating space.

Allow approximately 24" of usable table edge per person as a starting point. On an oval top, the surface narrows toward the ends, so overall length alone does not establish seating capacity.

Check the Base and the Space Around It

A double pedestal, panel base and metal-leg frame create different spaces for knees, feet and tucked-in chairs. Check the distance between supports, the overhang at each end and whether chair arms fit beneath the tabletop. Our pedestal dining tables offer more base styles to compare.

Allow at least 36" between the table edge and nearby walls or furniture, with more room along busy walking routes. A 72" × 40" table with 36" clearance on every side needs approximately 144" × 112" of clear space.

Mark the outline on the floor and position your chairs around it. Curved ends can help circulation around corners, but chairs still need room to pull out.

Should I choose an oval or rectangular dining table?

An oval top removes the projecting corners and gives the dining area a softer outline. A rectangular top provides more usable surface at its corners. Can I pair an oval dining table with a bench?

Yes. Selected walnut models offer a “+ Bench” option in the size selector. Check the bench length against the space between the table supports, and consider how people will enter and leave their seats. Select the listed table-and-bench combination when you want the bench included.
