Walnut, Oak and Beech Square Dining Tables

The wood and base give each design a different character.

Sidney and Petra are available in solid walnut and solid oak. Their tapered wooden legs keep the space beneath the tabletop visually open, making them a useful starting point for a mid-century modern dining room. Walnut brings deeper brown tones, while oak offers a lighter wood palette.

Liva pairs solid walnut with a Scandinavian-inspired form. Its simple all-wood construction works well alongside upholstered chairs, woven textures and understated dining room furniture.

Square Dining Table Sizes by Model

Available dimensions differ between designs. These are tabletop widths and depths; check the individual product for its height and selectable size options.

For two everyday diners, a small square dining table around 28"–32" can provide a compact breakfast setting. For four people, start by comparing 36"–44" square tops, with one chair on each side. Wider tops provide more room for serving dishes and larger place settings.

Seating capacity also depends on chair width, the space between the legs and how much elbow room you prefer. Allow approximately 24" of usable table edge per diner as a starting point, and check the corners where adjacent place settings meet.

Planning the Space Around Your Table

Measure the dining area with nearby furniture in place. A sideboard, kitchen island or open cabinet door can reduce the usable space around a table.

Aim for at least 36" between the table edge and a wall or nearby furniture, with additional clearance along busy walking routes. For example, a 40" square table with 36" on every side needs approximately 112" × 112" of clear space. This is a planning guide; larger chairs and through-traffic may require more.

Can a square dining table seat eight people?

An eight-person arrangement needs space for two chairs on every side. Larger square tops may accommodate this layout, but the distance between the legs and the chair widths are critical. Before ordering for eight, send us your preferred model, tabletop size and chair measurements so we can review the fit.

How do I check whether my dining chairs will fit?

Compare the chair’s seat height and arm height with the clearance beneath the tabletop and any supporting apron. Overall table height alone does not show whether chair arms will slide underneath. Heights vary by model: Luna is 30" high, Dakota is 29.9", and Soho is 28.5".

Is a square table suitable for a small kitchen?

A compact square table can work well when its proportions match the available space. Positioning one side against a wall can leave more floor space for daily use, although it removes seating access on that side. Measure the layout with chairs pulled out as well as tucked in.

Will the table arrive assembled?

Assembly requirements depend on the design. Models such as Sidney and Luna arrive with the tabletop and supporting parts separated for transport, with assembly instructions provided. Check the product’s assembly information when planning delivery and setup.
