Choose a Coffee Table Shape for Your Room

Round wood coffee tables work well where people approach the table from several directions. The curved outline removes projecting corners, which can help beside a chaise or between armchairs. Check the diameter against the available floor space rather than assuming every round table will fit a small room.

Rectangular wood coffee tables provide a longer surface alongside a sofa. Pay attention to depth as well as length: a narrower top can leave more space between the sofa and the furniture opposite it.

For height, compare the tabletop with the top of your sofa’s seat cushion. A table close to seat height, or slightly lower, is a useful starting point.
